Dance, raise money and enjoy the show!

Hello Ottawa!

Sorry it’s been a while since I posted on here! Exciting things have been happening at BHBB and I’ve been up to my eyeballs in website proofs, feature ideas and a lot of midnight work sessions. Soon, you will see a brand new logo and an amazing new website where you will be able to click and get regular health, beauty, food and fashion tips from your very own city. Also, you’ll be able to get involved and comment on features.

But don’t threat, BHBB Blog is back. I really want to start using this more for telling you about events that are happening in the community and this is a great one to start off with.

DRIVEN for the Breath of Life

This amazing hip hop dance show is being held on Sunday, July 10, at 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at Andrew Haydon Park (3169 Carling Ave) in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

It is a free show, but donation boxes will be around so please do donate whatever you can for such a great cause. Remember every single penny counts!

This is not an event where just some goes to charity, 100% of the money we raise will be going to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. And why? This charity is very near and dear to the heart of the organizer Andrea Joinette as her younger sister, Emilie, passed away in December 2009 after her fight with Cystic Fibrosis. Andrea describes her sister as having a “happy go lucky nature was contagious which is why she was loved by so many” and she says that Emilie inspired her to be all that she can be and live life to the fullest!

So, go along and watch an amazing crew of young dancers and donate to a great cause!
The event: DRIVEN for the Breath of Life is to help raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. You can make a donation online or in person at the event on Sunday July 10th from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at Andrew Haydon Park (3169 Carling Ave).  This event will happen come rain or shine!

Tea, fashion and Royal wedding gossip!

The Royal wedding is nearly here and we're excited at BHBB! We can't wait to see Kate's dress and all the fabulous hats that the ladies will be wearing.

Being from England myself, I love a spot of tea, or as we say, a good cuppa! We heard about  this amazing "Royal ParTea" event being held in in aid of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and just had to tell you about it!

If you love talking fashion then you can't miss out on the talk from Jeanne Beker!

That's not it, there's yummy food and a gift bag which is to die for!

Go on a have a sip of tea and join in the wedding fun.

Ottawa Fashion Week - Some of our Saturday highlights!

Ottawa Fashion Week is over for another season and myself and Ms. Kate checked out some shows.

What did we get from the Saturday show? A fabulous mix of sparkle, turban chic, faux fur, big hair, fitted dresses and feathered fun! And inhale... that's a lot in one night ey?

Faux funkiness!
ElizBourk rocked the runway with her collection showcasing some fabulous faux fur, just perfect for the Ottawa winter! This big hat is a great statement piece that we would love to add to our wardrobe during the snowy month.

We also picked up on some fabulous details like the leopard print wrap and the faux fox tail attached to the belt.

I'm a lady
The collection from Serendipity by Kelsey McIntyre was all about ladylike fabrics and cuts, and the big hair caught our eye! Girls put down the straighteners and add some curls. Also, check out the cute feathered earrings. Perfect for adding some details without being to much of a statement.

We loved this fabulous fitted black dress. The feathered shoulder detail is simply stunning. Definitely a new look to the LBD.

 It's turban time
Emily Woudenberg & Anastasiya Kuyevda went for fabulous turbans for their models and they looked fabulous. With loose plates and natural make-up, this added the perfect touch to the collection.
Sparkle and Shine
We loved Rachel Sin's collection! Her cuts were beautiful and so lady like. I loved the sparkle. It is great to see shine in a fall/winter collection. I feel in love with the gold blazer. Just perfect for that extra layer you need in the fall.

We had a fabulous time checking out designers. Hopefully you've picked up a few ideas for your wardrobe. I will be adding some funky details to update mine.

A little note: All photos in this blog were taken by Kate Headley (you know her a the fabulous Ms. Kate).

Bye for now,

Putting fashion aside...

We getting excited for Ottawa fashion week. The city is abuzz with fashion news, hot outfits and catwalk gossip.

However, with all this glamor surrounding us, I sat down to start writing this blog, the TV on in the background and I look up to see yet more devastating images from Japan. From this I decided to put the Ottawa Fashion Week news aside for the day (we will be back over the weekend) and remind you of the way's that you can donate.

Here's a few helpful links:

The Canadian Red Cross
You can go to a local Red Cross office or donate online - Click here

Bank Donations
Until April 15 the following banks will be accepting donations (information taken from the Canadian Red Cross). Cheques should be earmarked Japan Earthquake Asia Pacific 2011.

  • Canadian Western Bank
  • CIBC
  • HSBC Bank Canada
  • ING DIRECT
  • Laurentian Bank of Canada
  • National Bank Financial Group
  • RBC
  • Scotiabank
  • TD Canada Trust
LCBO
Staff will ask you if you would like to donate next time you go to buy a bottle of vino.

Events
Look out for local events! There are more popping up everyday. Here's two that i've seen today:

April 28 - The Mamo and Kinki Resaurants Cultural Series will be donating all profits to the Red Cross Campaign. www.mambonuevolatino.com, www.kinki.ca

Camellia Teas of Ottawa is hosting a whole bunch of events. Check out their website here

Remember the old saying "every penny counts"? It really does. If you can donate a dollar just think how much that would be if everyone in Ottawa donated one dollar!

Newly engaged? We have news!

Photo: Miv Photography
So, Christmas was just a few months ago (I know it feels like it was so long ago), New Years was time to celebrate and Valentine's Day is just around the corner... maybe one of these special days ended up (or will may be end up) with you smiling down at a diamond on your finger!

If this is you, or if you just fancy some wedding fever, then check out the Engage event at Lago Bar and grill on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Now, we have been told that this is not just a wedding show, in fact don't even think of it as a wedding show! It is a boutique bridal event. Basically, there will be the very best businesses that Ottawa has to offer from the wedding world, but there will also be lots of nibbles, drinks and entertainment - really it's a girls night out!

The great this about this event is that profits will be donated to The Canadian Breast Cancer Network!

We're going to check it out!

Bye for now,

Sarah

Back to the blog!

Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With the holiday season and getting you issue 6 of BHBB I'm afraid the blog has not been updated. But, we are back and ready to go!

Look out for the Jan. 19 issue of BHBB! We are talking about the Orleans Wellness Expo, make-up, fashion, boosting you immune system and some fabulous shopping! Also, you can win a pass to the Therien 60 Day Challenge worth $99!

We are working ahead and getting excited about the Feb. 2 issue! It's our Valentine's special! There will be lots of gifts ideas, suggestions for date outfits and a fabulous contest!

On another note: have you been on the canal yet? Yes, it is open, so grab your skates and head off for an icy day out. It is a great leg and cardio workout!

Alternatively, how about winter running? I run during the warmer months but decided it was time to brave the cold and run in the winter. Being from England and still getting used to this climate, I never thought I would say the following... Winter running feels amazing! With the right gear, it's a great workout!

Stay warm and stay safe during these cold months!

Bye for now,
